Part of a Digital asset PNG file is not available, what can be the case?

Most likely this has to do with an incorrect clipping path in the source file which was applied to the PNG in the FileConvert.

When a digital asset PNG file looks like the image below, part of the PNG file is missing.

The chance is very high this is caused by the original file having an incorrect clipping path and the PNG is converted via the FileConvert where in the file conversion, the clipping path is applied to make the PNG file transparent.

See the following screenshot of the original file having the incorrect clipping path:

Check file is converted via FileConvert

To check if the PNG file is generated via the FileConvert, go to the tab 'File conversion log' and see the file type and revision is listed there.

  • Go to Manage Digital Assets
  • Open the digital asset
  • Go to tab 'File conversion log'

Check if clipping path is applied in the FileConvert

  • Go to Manage Digital Assets
  • Go to Exports & reports
  • Run the report 'Digital asset FileConvert configuration'
  • Open the XLSX file and look for the row where the digital asset type matches, the source file type and extension matches and the target file type and extension matches. When the clipping path is applied, the  parameters will say:
    • "clip": true

Check the clipping path in the source file

  • Go to Manage Digital Assets
  • Open the digital asset
  • Go to tab 'Files' and download the original file
  • Open this file in a tool which can show the clipping path. For example 'GIMP'. Check out this
  • Knowledge Base article for more information on this topic.
  • Check if there is a clipping path in the same shape as the part that's missing in the PNG.

Fix the PNG

If the clipping path in the source file is the cause of the missing content in the PNG file, take the following steps:
  • Fix the original file to no longer have the incorrect clipping path
  • Go to Manage Digital Assets
  • Open the digital asset
  • Go to tab 'Files' and upload a new file revision of the original file
  • The FileConvert will generate new file revisions of the PNG
  • To check this:
    • Go to tab 'File conversion log'
    • Wait until the conversion has succeeded
    • Go to tab 'Files'
    • Download the PNG file and open it
    • See that the file got fixed

Issue is not solved

When somewhere in the process above, the situation is different than described or at the end, the issue with the PNG is still there, submit a technical issue to the SyncForce Support team to find out what can be the issue and get it solved.
