Creating new digital assets in the Digital Asset Manager, how does it work?

For which file types can I upload files and which file extensions are allowed?

Digital asset types & file types

Digital assets in SyncForce have a digital asset type which defines what kind of digital asset it is. Per digital asset type is defined what kind of files are available, the 'file types'. These files can be uploaded by the user and/or can be auto generated based on the uploaded original file.

Localized digital assets

Per digital asset type is also defined if the digital assets for this digital asset type are localized. This localization is on language and/or country.

Creating new digital assets in the Digital Asset Manager (DAM)

The creation of new digital assets in the Digital Asset Manager has 2 versions:

  1. Version 1: There is only 1 file which can be uploaded per digital asset. All other files are auto generated. There is 1 'dropzone' where you can drop all your files. Each file will be created as new digital asset.
  2. Version 2: There are multiple files which can be uploaded per digital asset (so not all files are auto generated) OR the digital asset type is localized (has localizations based on language and/or country). There is a 'dropzone' per digital asset in which all files for this digital asset are dropped.

Which file types can be uploaded?

Is the digital asset type localized (does it have language and/or country localizations)?

  • Yes, localized: All file types linked to the digital asset type minus the Thumbnail and Preview file types.
    • To be added soon: and minus the file types which are auto generated by a FileConvert conversion (a.k.a. which are a target in a FileConvert recipe).
  • No, not localized: All file types linked to the digital asset type for which the setting 'AutoConverted' is OFF minus the Thumbnail and Preview file types.
    • To be added soon: and minus the file types which are auto generated by a FileConvert conversion (a.k.a. which are a target in a FileConvert recipe).

Version 1 or version 2?

The following logic is used to define if the first version or the second version is used on creating new digital assets.

  • Is the digital asset type localized (does it have language and/or country localizations)?
    • Yes; version 2
    • No; continue
  • Is there only 1 file type which can be uploaded for this digital asset type?
    • Yes; version 1
    • No; version 2

Which file extensions are allowed to upload?

Per digital asset type - file type combination is defined which file extensions are allowed to upload for this file type. This defines which file extensions can be uploaded on creating new digital assets.

All file extensions which are configured as 'Allowed extensions' for the file types which can be uploaded (see this paragraph) minus the file types which are auto generated by a FileConvert conversion (a.k.a. which are a target in a FileConvert recipe) are allowed to be uploaded on creating new digital assets.
