How to split up a Master product (via import)

Sometimes there is a need to split up a Master product into two or more Masters. This Knowledge Base article explains how to do this via the import.

Moving a variant to another master can be quite some work and error prone when this needs to be done for a lot of products. This Knowledge Base article explains how to do this via the Product Master Data export & import functionality.

Request Product Master Data template export

Make sure the Product Master Data template export is configured for you as a customer and it's turned ON for you as a user.

  • In case the export is not yet available for you, check if you can turn ON this report so it's available for you.
    • Go to Manage Contacts & Users (or ask somebody who can do this for you).
    • Go to your user account.
    • Click on 'Settings' next to Manage Product Portfolio
    • Check if the report is listed there, still unchecked.
      • If so, select the report and press Save.
      • If the report is not listed here, contact your SyncForce Implementation Partner to get this report configured.
  • In case the export is available for you, request the export.

Adjust Product Master Data template export in Excel

  • Open the Product Master Data template export in Excel.
  • Remove all products (rows) which should not be adjusted.
  • Remove all columns for the attributes and further (all columns after the 'Status' of the variant)
  • This gives a clearer Excel file to work with.
  • For all product variants (rows) which need to be moved to a new master: Remove the value from the 'PR ID' column (first column).
  • For all these product variants, fill in the Master columns with the values of the new master. This will make sure that a new master is created. Make sure the data is the same across all product variants which need to move over otherwise multiple new masters will be created.
  • Make sure to leave the value as in 'SA ID' and all variant columns as is. This will make sure that the existing product variant will be moved to the new master.

Import Product Master Data template export in SyncForce

  • Go to [customer].syncforce.com.
  • On the browser tab, right mouse click and choose 'Duplicate'.
  • In the second browser tab, click on the 'Import Dashboard'.
  • In the first browser tab, go to Manage Product Portfolio.
  • Go to Exports & Reports and open the Product Master Data template export.
  • See the button 'Import' top right.
    • If you don't see the 'Import' button, contact your SyncForce Implementation Partner to get this functionality activated for you.
  • Click on 'Import', upload the adjusted Excel file and fill in the customer name as additional verification.
  • Click on 'Confirm import'.
  • Go to the second browser tab and click top right on the 'Refresh' button.
  • Depending on how busy it is with importing products, wait a bit.
  • You can use the 'Refresh' button to see if the import has been finished.
  • When the import is done, your product variants have been moved to a new master. There was NO dummy product variant created which need to be deleted. So you're all set right now.
