How to split up a Master product

Sometimes there is a need to split up a Master product into two or more Masters. As it is not possible to create a Master that has no Variants associated with it, a work around is needed to accomplish the split up.

This document describes the work around. These are the steps:

  1. Create new product by copying the Master and any Variant belonging to that Master
  2. Move Variants from old Master to New Master
  3. Remove the Variant that was created during the copying of the Master

1. Create new product

a. In Manage Product Portfolio you click on the green New product button:

If for your SyncForce implementation the GTIN pool has been activated, continue to b., otherwise continue to d.

b. Skip Step 1 > GTIN by clicking No GTIN:

c. Enter a fictitious unique article number:

d. Choose “Create a product based on” and select any Variant belonging to that Master to base the copy on. Fill in the Master code and Master name and press Next:

2. Move Variants

Do this manually as follows:

a. Go to the Variant you want to move and click on the blue “Move to other master” button situated at the bottom left of the following screenshot:

b. Select the new Master and confirm the move:

c. Repeat as needed for all Variants that need to be moved

3. Remove temporary Variant

The temporary Variant created when the Master was copied, can now be removed. As long as you haven’t Published the article you can still delete it:
