# How does SyncForce support the EU Digital Product Passport?

## How does SyncForce support the EU Digital Product Passport?

### SyncForce supports the EU-DPP through three complementary services: **SyncForce Circular PIM** manages the Product Model and its regulatory data, **prodigi.link** provides persistent standards-based identification and resolution, and **Perennis** provides long-term persistence of EU-DPP information.

The architecture builds on the **SyncForce Golden Hierarchy**, where Product, Sales Unit and Packaging are separate but connected objects.

#### The fundamental principle is:

 Sales Unit = Product(s) + Packaging

The commercial Sales Unit is not automatically the Product that requires the EU-DPP.

---

#### Why the distinction matters

A traditional PIM often starts from one product or SKU record.

For packaged goods, that is not enough.

A Sales Unit can contain:

- one Product
- multiple Products
- one Packaging System

Those objects can have completely different lifecycles.

Consider a laptop sold online or in a store.

The customer buys **one Sales Unit**, with one GTIN.

Inside the box are:

- a laptop Product Model
- a charger Product Model
- packaging

After the box is opened, the laptop and charger continue to exist independently.

The charger may also be used across several other laptop models or sold separately as a replacement part.

For EU-DPP purposes, the Product Model therefore requires an identity independent from the GTIN of the Sales Unit.

---

### The SyncForce EU-DPP architecture

The architecture separates four areas.

#### Product identity

The Product Model receives a globally unique identifier.

SyncForce uses:

`25P/VTA-MPLA-PM-xxxxxxxx`

where `25P` is a standardized ASC MH10.8.2 Data Identifier used within the ISO/IEC identification framework.

#### Commercial identity

The Sales Unit continues to use:

`GTIN`

and, where required, SyncForce uses:

`GTIN + CPV`

to distinguish physical Variants and Revisions under the same GTIN.

#### Packaging identity

The Packaging System receives its own identity:

`31B/VTA-MPLA-PS-xxxxxxxx`

Packaging System is also the PPWR compliance object in the SyncForce Golden Hierarchy.

### Digital identity and persistence

prodigi.link makes these identities persistently resolvable.

Perennis provides long-term regulatory publication and preservation.

The resulting architecture is:

**SyncForce Circular PIM**

↓

**Product Model and EU-DPP data**

↓

**prodigi.link**

↓

**EU-DPP and related digital resources**

↓

#### **Perennis**

for long-term EU-DPP persistence.

One Sales Unit can lead to several regulated information sets

A remote-controlled car illustrates why this matters.

One commercial Sales Unit may contain:

- the RC car
- a remote control
- a rechargeable battery for the car
- another battery for the remote control
- one Packaging System

Commercially, this can still be:

**one Sales Unit**

**one GTIN**

**one Marketing Landing Page**

However, the two batteries may require separate regulatory information under the EU Battery Regulation.

The Sales Unit page can therefore provide indirect access to two Battery Information Pages.

At the same time, a QR code physically attached to each battery can identify the Battery Product Model directly.

The architecture therefore supports both:

**Sales Unit → Product Model → regulatory information**

and:

**Physical Product → Product Model → regulatory information**

This distinction is central to the SyncForce EU-DPP architecture.

---

### A Marketing Landing Page is not the EU-DPP

A QR code, Digital Link, Marketing Landing Page and EU-DPP are different concepts.

**QR code**
A physical data carrier.

**Identifier**
Identifies the relevant Product, Sales Unit or Packaging System.

**Resolver**
Connects that identifier to one or more digital resources.

**Marketing Landing Page**
A consumer or commercial digital experience.

**EU-DPP**
The regulated European Digital Product Passport.

A Marketing Landing Page can display selected EU-DPP information or link to an EU-DPP.

That does not make the Marketing Landing Page itself the EU-DPP.

This separation allows one persistent identifier to support regulatory, commercial and consumer use cases without confusing their purposes.

In one sentence

**SyncForce manages what the Product is, prodigi.link makes the Product persistently identifiable and resolvable, and Perennis ensures that EU-DPP information remains available for as long as required.**
